Kalamu is a community project that inspires learners in underserved communities by giving them pens to write their futures. To pen their dreams.
Giving a pen to poor households goes a long way in having their income spent on other essentials such as food, medicine and clothing. For a family that earns Sh200 a day, buying three pens for each child at Sh15 a piece is equivalent to spending a fifth of their daily income on biros. Why pens? Pens are a critical part of learning that most education planners, parents and guardians ignore. Collecting used and new pens is an easy, low-cost venture The pens – coming in various shapes, sizes and company logos – will greatly motivate students This venture is green and environment friendly – avoids wastage and makes use of what would end up as trash
Tip: Clean out your lockers and closet collect all the pens you find. Dust the pens out, try scribbling
